Pearl millet also known as bajra in India, is a versatile and drought-resistant cereal grain that has been cultivated for thousands of years, primarily in arid and semi-arid regions of Africa and Asia. This ancient grain is a staple food for millions of people and serves as a vital source of nutrition and sustenance, particularly in regions with challenging agricultural conditions.

Nutritionally, pearl millet is rich in essential nutrients. It is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and protein. Additionally, it provides various vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins (niacin, thiamine, and riboflavin), magnesium, phosphorus, and iron. Pearl millet is gluten-free, making it suitable for those with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease.

Pearl millet is primarily consumed as a staple food in various forms, including flatbreads, porridge, and couscous-like dishes. It is also used to produce fermented beverages and animal feed. Due to its nutritional content and adaptability to challenging growing conditions, pearl millet plays a vital role in food security, particularly in regions prone to drought and food scarcity.
